Shaelynn Recollet is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe/Odawa) self-taught multimedia visual artist from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. She took early inspiration from her family, the land, and her own interpretations of the teachings and stories she heard growing up. Continuing to explore the multiple facets of her culture and learning while reaching out to her dreams, visions, and personal memories; her acrylic paintings explore various themes of land, tradition, and connection through organic abstract forms that incorporate careful linework and broad use of color. Her continuous interest and learning of traditional cultural art practices such as traditional Anishinaabe pottery and birch bark work, along with nurturing a unique style of creating, have provided Shaelynn with a deeper living connection to the land by harvesting these materials under the careful guidance of her teachers and community elders and provided her the necessary space to understand herself and her path.
